Serenity In Summer.

As June drifts in unmistakable tranquility, I cannot help but observe how different the world is at this time of the year. To be honest, it’s the first time for me to feel the summer deeply, eyeing the miscellaneous minor changes stuck in the atmosphere, as the day gets longer.

I used to believe summer was all about relentless pleasure and bustling activity, but I no longer do. Summer is the ideal picture of calmness: the oddly glistening blue skies, occasional clouds lumbering in the prolonged afternoons, trees all ripe and richly green, as well as those late flowers cluttering the streets, dried up from the brassy sun’s heat. I like to watch it all while I walk, trying to find resemblance and meanings.

There is ample time in summer, perhaps that’s why it’s an opportunity to slow down a little and take advantage of the early sun rays and late dusks. A chance to feel helplessly present as time passes by, letting go of future-worries. It’s a time to feel blessed by the little life you are living, be gratified by the fleeting simple moments accompanied by not-so-chilly breezes and flustering heat.

There have been a few heat waves but they make me joyful. I know it’s eerie and I can’t deny that being exposed too much in the sun leaves me tired, but I feel free in an inexplicable way— as if I am coloured blue, like the sky, flowing like a brook.

I’m cherishing the afternoons I’m spending in the balcony, indulging in luscious watermelons and summer apples, both my dad and I forgetting about etiquette and get all smeared with fruit juice. It’s a beautiful memory to document. There is also the fragrance of peppermint and tea, cucumbers and grapes being prepared every now and then— all of it infusing this innocent happiness I’m honouring wholeheartedly.

Summer is all about those small magical moments, probably unnoticed, yet it’s possible to let them overwhelm us. We don’t have to be purposeful and ambitious every single day, we can allow some time to reflect and be gentle, let autumn hopes simmer and grow as we visualise the many things we could achieve— but please, not today.

Take some time to love your life this summer, whether you’re working, studying for an upcoming degree or consuming yourself in new projects and life challenges. Take some time to work slowly and steadily, challenging your comfort zone with mindfulness, to ease the tension and feel your face expand with lightness.

May the prevailing blue light flood you with peace.
